Welcome Back: February 10th to 15th!

Hello Parents!

My name is Kate and I am the English Teacher for your children this semester. I'm from Canada and I'm very excited to be here teaching in Turkey!

Our theme this month is Children's Games. I have organized a lot of fun and engaging activities for this unit. I will post on my blog as frequently as possible!

Lines of Inquiry:

1. The games that they play and the objects they use while playing
2. Their feelings while playing (empathy, win or lose)
3. Their responsibilities and roles during the games (cooperation, teamwork)

Concepts:
Empathy
Cooperation
Entertainment

This week the theme was introduced. I asked them “What do we need when playing a game?” Vocabulary: ball, dice, board etc and some verbs such as: run, jump, stop, and go.
For a pre-assessment activity, the students drew 4 of their favourite games. We acted them out afterwards together.
Throughout the week, the students learned how to active games such as:

Tic Tac Toe ( Also known as X's and O's= A board game where two people play against each other  and take turns to get 3 in a row either horizontal or vertical)

Musical Chairs (Listening to music and instructions such as stop and go! The last one to find a chair is out so you better be quick!)

Hopscotch (Jumping game where we also reviewed counting from 1-10 during the games)

Buwan, Buwan ( A Phillipino game where the children my stay on the lines and run away from each other without getting caught!)

Lastly, I introduced and discussed 3 different sports: baseball, basketball and football.

The students colored and pasted the balls onto their appropriate playing field.

The children really enjoyed listening and doing the actions to this song:
